This is RI DEM with a Shellfish Hotline update, effective at Sunrise December 10th, 2019, Conditional Areas Greenwich Bay, Mt. Hope Bay and the Kickemuit River will be closed to shellfishing and scheduled to reopen at Sunrise December 17th, 2019.
The Office of Water Resources has established a listserv to email notifications of Conditional Area and emergency shellfish harvesting closures (e.g. harmful alga blooms, sewage releases, etc). To receive these notifications, please click here RishellfishOWR-subscribe@listserve.ri.gov You will receive a confirmation email that you need to accept to complete the sign up (check spam or junk mailbox). As required by RI General Law ยง 20-8.1-3 DEM will continue to provide notice of harvesting restrictions on the 24-hour shellfish hotline recording: 401-222-2900.
Since 2016 notifications of emergency water quality shellfish closures were sent through the Division of Marine Fisheries Listserv. After December 15, 2019 water quality related shellfishing closures will only be sent via the new Office of Water Resources listserv.
