The Rhode Island Division of Marine Fisheries is conducting a project that seeks to describe summer flounder stock dynamics in and around Rhode Island state waters. Results from this effort will support science-based management of the resource, particularly with relation to recent declines in the availability of summer flounder to nearshore recreational anglers. As part of this study, disc tags are being applied to fluke encountered on recreational fishing trips. These tags are being deployed by recreational anglers within the private and for-hire sectors, and the Division is seeking additional participants to tag summer flounder they release.
Interested volunteers may attend one of two informational trainings being conducted by RIDMF staff, listed below. Please reach out to Division staff (corinne.truesdale@dem.ri.gov ) with any questions.
